What is Smolyan MTB?

Smolyan MTB is an organization dedicated to the development, maintenance, and promotion of mountain biking trails in the Smolyan region. We also organize MTB events throughout the year to bring the biking community together.

What types of trails are available?

Our hashtag #naturallydiversetrails says it all. The trails include natural features such as soft pine soil, rocky and sandy sections, deciduous forest terrain, rocks, and roots. Some tracks have jumps, berms, and supported corners for added fun and safety.

Are the trails suitable for all skill levels?

Yes! Our trail network includes routes for all skill levels – from smooth and easy trails for beginners to technical descents for advanced riders. The more difficult sections can always be walked through if needed.

Do I need to pay to use the trails?

Trail access is currently free. However, we welcome donations to help with trail maintenance and development. Donation boxes are available during our events, or you can contact us for details.

What events do you organize?

Our events are currently non-competitive and focus on community engagement. We organize training sessions, trail-building initiatives, and other fun activities. Check our Events page for more details.

How do I access the trails?

The fastest and easiest way is through organized transport (van, pickup). Self-pedaling or using an e-bike is also an option. On average, pedaling to a trail start takes about an hour. If you’re coming with a group, we can help arrange transport.

Do you offer trail guides?

Yes, we can arrange a guide upon prior request. Our local guides are experienced and know the area inside out. Contact us for details.

Is shuttle service available?

Yes, shuttle services are available during specific events and upon prior arrangement for private groups. We use pickups and vans for this purpose. Please let us know in advance if you need a shuttle.

How can I support Smolyan MTB?

Are the trails open year-round?

The trails are accessible for most of the year. Even in winter, about 80% of them remain rideable, depending on the weather. Always check trail conditions before heading out. You can find updates in the "Trails" section of the website.

Do you offer bike rentals or repair services?

We don’t directly offer bike rentals or repair services, but we can recommend reliable local shops in Smolyan. Contact us for recommendations.

How can I stay informed about trail conditions and events?

You can check the "Trails" section of our website. Follow us on Facebook (Smolyan MTB) for regular updates on trail conditions, upcoming events, and community news.

Do you assist with accommodation?

Yes, we can recommend hotels, guesthouses, and restaurants. Contact us for more details.

What are the options for meals during rides?

We typically ride without long breaks for rest. Popular options include quick meals: lunch menus at a restaurant or doner kebabs. We also stop at shops for quick food supplies. It’s advisable to bring energy bars, nuts, and fruits with you.

Are there other activities for families in the area?

The town of Smolyan offers a variety of activities for both children and adults, such as visits to lakes, waterfalls, museums, spas, eco-trails, and cultural landmarks. The area is suitable for family and group vacations.
